Teenagers are often the toughest to communicate with. They are demanding independence but are not always ready for the responsibility of their choices. They are filled with emotions that sometimes come out as big and boisterous and other times quiet and withdrawn. How do we connect to someone that can be so angry or depressed? An objective and neutral person such as a therapist in a teenagers life may be met at first with pessimism by the teen, but it can lead to a healthier and happier young adult and to improved relationships with family.
I have had many successful first meetings with adolescents and teenagers at a level that opens the door for a trusting relationship and open communications. To promote healthy communication in the family I typically ask that a parent/guardian be present for the beginning of the first session. After that I clearly establish the confidential time for individual counseling. Parents can expect to have regular communication as needed over the course of treatment.
Professionally, I have over 20 years experience working with teenagers as a therapist, coach, and counselor. I stay current with research and counseling methods to provide the best and most comprehensive therapy services. My expertise and skill have helped hundreds of teens get through difficult times and develop life skills to meet the challenges of today and beyond.
